Air Guitar and Caviar is the book of my heart, and I’m so happy that it’s finally seeing the light of day. It was the first full length book that I actually finished and it went through the New Writers’ Scheme in the Romantic Novelists’ Association about five years ago. It wasn’t ready for publication then, and as my ‘reader’ noted, for a light romance, it probably wasn’t the best idea to have a young girl die in it! Think I was just trying to up the ante on the emotion front.
Moving forward a few years, I unearthed ‘Blue Skies and Stars,’ as it was then called, and read through it again, remembering how much I’d loved my hero Dylan, the busker. I completely re-wrote the story in the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) challenge and at the end of it, I just thought–yep, this is the book that’s going to mean something to me!
I resurrected Dylan because he is so lovely and although he becomes famous, he is a bit of a caring chap, so no bad boy, rock star dude there, just a charming, charismatic man who is desperately in love. I almost think of him as a real person, which is probably not as weird as it sounds, to anyone who has ever written a book.
Dylan Willis and Scarlett De Verre- it’s your turn to shine!
